What's in a Name? A Lot!

Updated: May 24

Most time we run from our names. Based on many reasons. It could be historical, due to childhood trauma or a spiritual awakening. Maybe your nickname is more inviting than birth given? Whether or not, there's a lot in a name.

My birth name is Yoni. Pronounced Yo-neye. Delivered proudly to my mother by my late Aunt Lillie. It sure holds weight. And I have just learned how to properly carry this heavy load.

Yoni represents the power of the Goddess. Yoni can be renewing. Yoni is the origin. Many are familiar with its symbol being the vagina. When in fact its ancient symbol is the upper part of the ankh. It's easy for my name to be sexualized and mispronounced. A few years ago it was used to promote vaginal steams and other sensual practices. But if we look deeper into the sacred meaning of the ankh. We will see that my namesake is much more than a trend.
